Utilities Cost Reduction Plan

School Year 2007-08

Abbott Independent School District

Background:  Abbott ISD has completed the Utilities Cost Template as provided by ESC Region 12.  In 2006-07, Abbott spent just under $80,000 in utilities.  Much of that is in demand charges that we have no control over.  They are in place regardless of usage.  We can, however, attempt to be more conservative in our habits and routines when it comes to utility costs.  Considering the fact that Abbott will soon be adding approximately 20,000 square feet in building space, it is imperative that costs be minimized.

Usage Reduction Plan:

  1. Staff Development – This issue has been discussed at length with all Abbott employees.  We will continue these efforts in order to reduce our overall costs.

  1. Monitor costs – Utility costs have been reviewed extensively by the administration since the summer of 2007.  This process will continue in an order to realize loss or gain in terms of utilities costs.

This plan is simply and beginning, and will continue to be developed and monitored on an ongoing basis.  Any suggestions or questions can be directed to Bill Tarleton, superintendent.
